sweet sounds

Brady is starting to coo and make such sweet sounding noises! His coos just melt my heart! This week he has really taken to his activity mat.  He is becoming so much more alert and is awake for more hours during the day! He is definitely coming out of that "newborn coma". During the day, Brady has about an hour of activity time after his feeding.  After his activity time, I put him down for a nap for about 2-2.5 hours before he is due for his next feeding.  My favorite part of the day is when he is awake and ready to play!  

One Month

On February 9, 2013, my little Brady bear turned one month old!! At his one month check up, he weighed in at 10 lbs 1 oz and measured at 22 inches. At birth he was 7 lbs 15 oz and 19 3/4 inches.  My little bear cub is growing!  

-Brady was such an easy, no fussy baby the first 2 weeks after delivery.  He would sleep all day and would wake up and cry whenever he needed to load up on Mama's milk.  He would nurse every 2 to 2 1/2 hours for about 20 minutes.  Mike and I loved this time period of cuddling and snuggling our no fuss baby.  We were fortunate enough to have Mike's parents down here in Houston these first couple of weeks of Brady's life.  I had a tough recovery after delivery, so it was nice to have someone help out with chores around the house and love on Brady.  

-Brady slept in his bassinet next to our bed for about 2 weeks.  After that, he decided that the bassinet was not too comfortable.  He much rather preferred sleeping in his bouncer that vibrated and played soft music.  So, we placed his bouncer in the pack and play next to our bed. Easy, right?  Well, about a week in the bouncer and he grew tired of that.  He decided that there is no place better than to fall asleep in the arms of Mama or Daddy!  And not only fall asleep there, but to stay asleep there!  Once Mama or Daddy tried to move Brady from their arms, Brady would scream and cry endlessly.  Mama and Daddy spent about 2 weeks taking turns sleeping in the rocker or recliner while holding the wee Bear Cub.  We tried swaddling him and placing him in his crib, but Brady did not like that!  And out of desperation, Brady slept a few nights in Mama and Daddy's bed.  Now, at 6 weeks old, Brady is sleeping in his swinger next to our bed.  Plans to transition him to his crib are underway.  Hopefully Brady will be on board!

-Mike's parents were in town for the first couple of weeks after Brady was born.  Since they were visiting from Michigan, we had to make sure that they got to spend some time out of the house.  This meant that Brady got to go on many first adventures!  Brady has been on walks at Cullen Park, Hershey Park, Memorial Park, and Hermann Park.  He has made a visit to Galveston where he ate at a Cajun restaurant, walked the beach, shopped along the Strand, and went to mass at an old church in town.  Brady's first mass he attended was Our Lady of Chestahova and it was said in polish. Brady's first restaurant out to eat was Niner's Grill in Katy next to Daddy's work where Brady made an appearance and won the hearts of Daddy's coworkers.

-At 6 weeks, he is still in his newborn size diapers, but it looks like we will be moving on up to size 1 by next week. He has outgrown some of his newborn sleep and plays, but still wears newborn sizes for the most part.  I suspect that this will not last very long and he will move to 0-3 month clothing by next week.

-Brady bear is addicted to his paci!  He needs it to soothe himself and to fall asleep.  I don't mind it one bit!

-He has the cutest, round, squishy nose; perfectly formed, plump lips; hazel eyes that sparkle; slick, shiny brownish blonde hair; and the most kissable, pudgy cheeks! He does have a bad case of baby acne, but that doesn't take away from his cuteness!

-Little Bear is a grunter, toot-er, hiccup-er, and just likes to make typical boy noises!

-Brady hates bath time!  He hates when I change his diaper or change his clothes!  He cries like there is no tomorrow. He hates feeling cold.  Oh, and he hates being bothered! He is definitely like Mama!

- He cries so loud when I place him in his car sear. Once he is nestled in, he will sleep like a hibernating bear!

Daddy and I are so in love with you!  Your Daddy adores you and takes such good care of you!  I love it when you snuggle on Daddy's chest!  You find so much comfort, protection, and warmth there!  You are so handsome and look just like Daddy! You have my facial expressions, and sometimes you make the funniest faces! You are just the most beautiful thing I have ever laid eyes on! Daddy and I are so thankful that God chose us to be your parents! We fall in love with you more and more each day!

Wake Up, Momma!

After an early morning feeding, I was too tired to put Brady back in his bassinet.  Instead, I placed him next to me in the bed.  I had hopes of going back to sleep, but these baby eyes kept staring right at me.  How can you sleep when these eyes are wanting to play?
